A 59th anniversary story in Mexico! I thought it may feel a little different photographing my parents, it often feels little strange photographing the people that are the closest to you. But it was a special day and I thought their story needed to be documented with some photos once I realized what day it was. And this is what a fifty nine years of marriage looks like! Meet my parents and learn a little about them.
We first asked them if they would like to join us on vacation in Mexico when we were telling them of one of our favorite places to visit. I am the forgetful child and actually forgot that their anniversary was during the time we would be away! Silly me! It really was a no brainer to ask if they would like some updated photos because it was such a special occasion to be in Mexico together where the weather is gorgeous compared to what November is on the Sunshine Coast!
He was a handsome young Dane with a thick accent and enthusiasm for life. She was a young red head from Pender Harbour. They met at a local dance and because she was a tender age of 16, she lied about her age. He was seven years older and lied about his age too, by taking three years off. In the small fishing town, everyone knew everyone. And her mom, grandma and the auntie all disapproved of the age difference. Love won over everything and they were married in St. Hilda’s Church in Sechelt on November 19, 1960.
Vacation Photo sessions are the best!
We invited them to our favorite vacation spot and I offered to do a few photos while on vacation at Rincon De Guayabitos and was happy they agreed! While they have spent many years vacationing in Mexico they had never stayed at Cabanas Del Capitan or in the Jaltemba area. Its a very lush area, vibrant with the locals and many Canadians that live there year round.
Everyone should have recent photos! When you arrive at their home, the first thing you notice is a huge wall full of photos. I just love the way she has them all displayed – Ikea has a great selection of picture ledges that makes it so easy to display all their photos! They will now have a recent ones of themselves to add and done by moi! (the favourite middle child!) I know! I’m not sure why it took me this long to do a photo session??!!
And the secret to a successful marriage is:
When asked what makes their marriage so successful, the answer is undoubtably love. (although Dad will tell you never go to bed mad at each other!) Their anniversary story will no doubt be never ending, and next year there will be a big celebration I’m sure! I’ve been married now for 29 years and hope to be this in love when we hit 59 years together! Read more – Why Photos are so important to me!
